Two predominant patterns are seen: the "apple", or android pattern, more common in men, with extra weight predominantly carried in the chest and waist area; and the "pear" or gynecoid pattern, with fat distribution predominant in the lower abdomen, buttocks, and thigh areas, more common in women.
The associated evidences of weight gain includes, mild shortness of breath, decreased stamina, and increasing difficulty in managing the physical activities of daily living.
